Genomic Consults

Teleconsultation with KinFolk Integrative Health

Our teleconsultation service includes one-on-one genomic health consults for ages 13 and up with Dr. Celeste Richmond through secure, HIPAA-compliant video chat as well as specialized genomic testing and personalized recommendations aimed at resolving the underlying root causes of your mental health concerns.

As a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Washington, Dr. Richmond has been extensively trained through her medical education at an accredited college and through her residency training in behavioral health. She is currently being trained in epidemiological research with a focus in epigenetic inheritance between mother and child, psychiatry, and nutrition. She has comprehensive knowledge on how genes, the mind, and the body work and how to correct symptoms by addressing genetic predispositions within your genome that may be further aggravated by epigenomic changes.

Step 1:

Schedule a 60-minute initial teleconsultation with Dr. Richmond. To prepare for your visit, complete the new client forms through our patient portal.

Step 2:

Dr. Richmond orders your genomic test and reviews your genomic report.

Step 3:

Consult with Dr. Richmond via video chat to review your mental health concerns and medical history followed by a detailed review of your genomic report. After reviewing your report, you receive personalized diet, lifestyle, supplement, and/or lab recommendations. For clients who are not established patients, Dr. Richmond may provide referrals for follow-up care.

Step 4:

For established patients, begin your treatment plan and your healing journey. If supplements are recommended, they are all sent through an online dispensary and shipped directly to your doorstep. Follow up with Dr. Richmond via video chat to ensure your health and well-being continue to improve.

Pharmacogenomic Testing

Genes provide instructions for body characteristics and daily body function. Some genes give our bodies instructions on how to process medications. Pharmacogenomic testing at KinFolk allows Dr. Richmond to look for variants (or SNPs) in your genes to help identify whether or not a medication will be an effective treatment for you. It also allows her to determine whether or not you will have moderate to severe side effects to a specific medication. With respect to your age, lifestyle, supplement/medication history, and medical history, this type of testing is a useful tool for determining the best medication for you, if deemed necessary. Pharmacogenomic testing can be especially useful for individuals with a history of negative side effects to multiple psychiatric medications, as well as, a history of persistent or worsening mental health symptoms despite ongoing medication use.

Dr. Richmond uses GeneSight® Psychotropic as her primary psychiatric pharmacogenomic test. This test includes a simple cheek swab that is sent directly to you to be taken in the comfort in your own home. After collecting your sample at home, all you have to do is mail the sample back to the lab for analysis. Based on scientific research, the test identifies potential gene-drug interactions, risks and benefits to a variety of psychiatric medications, such as, antidepressants (SSRIs & SNRIs), anxiolytics (benzodiazepines, non-benzodiazepines, & beta-blockers), mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, ADHD medications (stimulants & non-stimulants), and sleep medications.

**Please Note: Should your genomic report recommend or discourage any medication that is outside of her scope to prescribe or manage, Dr. Richmond will refer you to a psychiatrist, general physician or primary care physician for further consultation.**

GeneSight® bills your insurance provider directly for the GeneSight® Psychotropic Test. Depending on your specific insurance plan, the total out-of-pocket cost for this test usually ranges from $0 to $330. Should you lack sufficient insurance coverage or have any financial constraints, GeneSight® also has a financial assistance program and an interest-free payment plan to make this service accessible and affordable to all who need it.

**Please Note: The cost of the GeneSight® test is not included in the cost for the genomic consult. So, please budget accordingly.**

Nutrigenomic Testing

Dr. Richmond uses PureGenomics® and Toolbox Genomics as her primary nutrigenomic tests.

The PureGenomics® Report is a free service that analyzes raw genetic information from existing 23andMe or AncestryDNA results. No test kits or saliva samples are necessary. Clients simply upload their raw genetic information to PureGenomics® patient portal. This is a great option for individuals with financial constraints. However, for individuals who do not wish to order a DNA test through those companies, Toolbox Genomics is a great alternative. Toolbox Genomics does require a simple cheek swab be sent directly to you to be taken in the comfort in your own home. After collecting your sample at home, you simply mail the sample back to the lab for analysis. The cost of one DNA test/panel with Toolbox Genomics is $200. Any DNA tests/panels ordered at a later time are only $69 since your genetic sample is already stored in the lab. All genetic samples at PureGenomics® and Toolbox Genomics are de-identified once they reach labs for analysis.
